Situation:
This parish contains 42 Protestants and 3,838 Roman Catholics according to the information furnished by Rev. Mark A. Foster, Ovey Glebe and population return taken by the Police. The crops generally sown are potatoes and oats. The oats is generally carried Clifden where it is bought and from thence exported. The soil is generally rocky and moory. Sea weed is much or principally used as manure, but poor persons not having any part of the sea shore and residing in or near bog use heath principally as manure. Wages of farm servants:- Males from £4 to £5 per year; Females from 24 to 30 shillings per annum with board. Labourers 10d. per diem in spring and 6d. in summer and autumn. Rev. Peter Fitzmorris, P.P. resides in Clifden.
