The Irish name signifies Roche’s Rock
Description:
This is an irregularly formed townland, the whole of which forms a part of the Demesne of Roxboro, a considerable portion of this townland is plantation, the remainder being chiefly pasture of a very good description. The only remarkable objects in it are the ruins of an old Corn Mill, 2 Danish Forts and 2 Lime Stone Quarries and the Roxboro House. Proprietor Dudley Persse, Esq., of Roxboro.
Situation:
Lies N. of the centre of the parish and in the Barony of Loughrea. It is bounded by the townlands Ballygunneen, Ballymullen and Caherlinny in this parish, Ferny Park and Isserkelly N. in that of Isserkelly, Poulnasunnagh and Ballyshea in this parish and by Eskershanore, Deer Park and Lackabaun in the parish of Hilshurst.
