It is a vicarage in the Diocese of Clonfert forming part of the union of Dononaughta. There are 4 fairs in the year, held on the 1st of January, 25th of March, 29th of June and the 29th September. A market on every Wednesday throughout the year. There are two schools in the town for about 140 scholars. A detachment of police is stationed in the town. Pupils in both schools are all Roman Catholics.
