THE CLOIGTHEACH, I.E. THE ROUND TOWER
To measure its base; to measure it with the base of the Damliag to proportion it; and the excess which is in the length and breadth of the Damliag {from that out,} over the measurement of the Cloigtheach is the rule to determine the height of the Cloigtheach; and should there be excess in it, i.e., in the height of the Cloigtheach when compared with the Damliag, the price is raised equal to that proportion, and must be paid for the Cloigtheach accordingly.
The measurement of the base of the Cloigtheach is to be proportioned to that of the base of the Damliag; and the excess of the length and breadth of the Damhliag, over the measurement of the Cloigtheach is the rule to determine the height of the Cloigtheach; and if it should happen that the height of the Cloigtheach should exceed these proportions of the Damliag, the price is to be raised accordingly and paid for the Cloigtheach.

Given the height of tower and its diameter at the base to find the dimensions of its Damliag: Rule. Add the diameter and height together, and the sum will be the length and breadth of Damliag; from this sum take 24, the usual breadth of Irish Damliags, and the remainder will be the length.
Given the length and breadth of the Damhliag to find and the diameter of the base of tower to
find the height of tower: Rule. Add the length and breadth, and from the sum subtract the diameter, the remainder will be the height.
QUERIES, DOUBTS &C.
Should not the measurement of the whole base of the Damliag be given? that is, suppose it is 80 (feet) long and 24 broad, should not the two side walls and two gables be measured thus
