Tuam, 24th Aug. 1838
Dear Sir,
We have now visited the greater number of the parishes lying around this town, and the barony of Clare will be wanted immediately. (Mr. Petrie has it and is requested to expedite it.) We have discovered the walls of a very celebrated monastery not identified by Archdall about which I shall write immediately. We wish to travel as much as possible while the weather remains fine that we may write on wet days.
Has Mr. Petrie discovered any historical reference to the round tower of Kilbannon near Tuam? Has he returned yet.
your obedient Servt.,
John O'Donovan.
